Congratulations to my 8th grade ladies for winning the Silver Key at the Rhode Island Scholastic Art Awards!

Lindsey's painting was a new optional project I presented to the 8th grade. They created a self-portrait inspired by Chuck Close and his grid technique. She took her own photo and I enlarged it on the copy machine. We simplified it using only black and white values. After all, it was hard enough to draw a self-portrait for the first time, let alone paint it!

Most students cringe when it comes to the still life. Alex did a wonderful job. All of that drawing placement and shading was worth it. She has a beautiful composition.
